D&D Co-Creator Gary Gygax Passes Away At 69

Let’s us offer a moment of silence to honor the passing of Gary Gygax. He died because of heart problems at the age of 69.

Gygax co-created Dungeons & Dragons, the pen-and-paper role-playing game that would become the standard from which other RPGs would be based on. He was one of the designers of the system that used multi-sided dice to determine one’s fate in an imaginary universe. D&D paved the way for Baldur’s Gate, Planescape: Torment and Neverwinter Nights. His work is evident in titles that weren’t even set in D&D. For example, Knights of the Old Republic used a combat system based on twenty-sided dice. Without him we would have a very different concept of hit points, fortitude saves and critical strikes.

Rest in peace, Gary.
