Contra 4 Confirmed for the Nintendo DS

YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!

Ever since the original Contra for the old school Nintendo, I’ve been hooked on side scrolling shooting games. Who can forget the ancient Konami code? There have even been several series that were clearly inspired by Contra, the most notable of which is Metal Slug. After so many years, Konami is finally bringing Contra back to its roots with a new sequel, appropriately named Contra 4. The best part, they’re not doing some crappy 3D game; they’re sticking with old school 2D and the game is heading to the Nintendo DS.

Konami plans on making full use of the dual-screen layout, providing for some incredibly vertical boss battles. Totally awesome and I’m totally stoked. Better still, it’s all totally confirmed for release this year! In case you’re interested in the storyline, Contra 4 takes place two years after Contra 3 and…

This time around Bill and Lance find themselves battling the all new menace of the Black Viper, alongside new merc characters Mad Dog and Scorpion, which are incidentally both names of really bad alcoholic beverages.

What’s more, it’s not just about running, jumping and shooting (we all know that the “S” is the best gun). Konami is implementing a grappling hook for this go around: “Players will be able to grab onto the environment to avoid attacks or just hang around shooting all day.” W00t!
