CES 2008: Retro Duo Plays Two Sets of Retro Nintendo Games

If you’ve been gaming since the first day we got introduced a certain pudgy Italian plumber, this product might make it worthwhile to dust off those old cartridges. Over at CES 2008 in Las Vegas, the Retro Duo is on display. What makes it particularly interesting is that it has slots for both NES and SNES cartridges, meaning that you can enjoy Excitebike on the same console as you use to play Street Fighter II.

I realize that the Nintendo Wii is perfectly capable of this functionality as well (and then some), but it’s just so much more retro chic when you shove a physical cartridge into a slot. The kicker is that they say this is perfectly legal for the Retro Duo guys to do, because it takes advantage of lapsed patents. I dunno, I call foul.

At the same booth is the Gen X, which accepts both Sega Master System and Sega Genesis cartridges.
