Castlevania Producer: 2D Still Somewhat Alive

Among the many things that the Nintendo DS is known for is for being a suitable platform for 2D games. Let’s face it, with the processing power of today’s next-gen consoles, no one’s really expecting anyone to develop 2D games. The question then is what do you do with games that have become staples of 2D gaming like Castlevania and Mega Man? If you ask Koji Igarashi, series producer for Castlevania, you say your support for 2D.

Koji Igarashi: I did that speech over a year ago, and I’m glad that 2D is still somewhat alive. It’s been fun.

It’s also worth mentioning that the Castlevania titles that were released on the PS2 were in 3D. Both got mixed reviews, a far cry from the stellar scores their DS counterparts received.
