Call of Duty 4 Pwns Halo 3 on Xbox Live

Call of Duty 4 is winning all sorts of acclaim and accolade these days. We already hear that they’ll be porting a version of the first-person shooter over to Apple computers, but even before that happens, the war-themed video game is already conquering the Xbox Live universe, ousting Halo 3 from the top spot of titles played online.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is now the most-played game on Xbox Live, having lagged behind Halo 3 for several months now. It seems that interest in Master Chief is starting to wane just a little, providing a window of opportunity for Infinity Ward and Activision to climb to the top of the charts.

Interestingly enough, two of the other top five games played on Xbox Live are not first-person shooters. Instead, they’re more about shredding up the axe and banging on them drums: Guitar Hero III and Rock Band. I’m more of a rhythm fan myself, so I can totally dig that appeal.
