Blizzard Sticks With Diablo 3′s Art Style
A few months ago we previewed Diablo 3. A short while later I found a couple of fans who were nearly screaming bloody murder over the game’s art design. They were saying that it was too bright and colorful to be Diablo and wanted Blizzard to change things. They wanted to change that so much they started an online petition for it. While it didn’t fall on deaf ears like most online petitions do, Blizzard is still not doing anything about it.
Now the game’s lead designer has weighed in on the controversy. Speaking with MTV’s Multiplayer, Jay Wilson quashed the petitioner’s hopes, saying, “There’s no going back now.” Wilson explained the entire Blizzard team is happy with the style of the game in its present form, and they will not be changing it for the final release.
Personally, I like the new visual direction that Blizzard is taking. The designers have already done dark and gothic, so a step to a brighter, more colorful path is certainly welcome. Besides, if Diablo 3′s gameplay rocks, nobody’s going to whine about the visuals anymore.
