Barack Obama Gets a Second Life, First Campaign

I know, I know. This is a Canadian video game blog and we shouldn’t be all that interested in what’s happening south of the 49th parallel, but this was too juicy to pass up. Presidential candidate Barack Obama — who needs to beat out Hillary Clinton in the Democratic race before going up against the Republicans — is going after votes in the most unconventional of ways. One of the most apathetic demographics are us, the younger generation who are more interested in video games than politics. So, Obama supporters have apparently set up a virtual Barack in the Second Life world, getting it to campaign there just like the real-life counterpart.

He’s scheduled to make an appearance in the virtual Second Life tomorrow, March 31.

A simulated (but still totally dreamy) version of Obama will mimic the motions and posture of the real deal as he chats up a small group of Iowans.

Will it work? Will Canadian politicians follow suit?
