Atari Resurrects Baldur’s Gate

There was a time when PC RPGs meant virtual dice rolls and isometric viewpoints. That has since been replaced by games that use the first or third-person camera. Recent news have revealed that Atari is looking to revive a couple of titles that have been synonymous with the previous RPG era. Baldur’s Gate, Neverwinter Nights and Dungeons & Dragons are all going to be receiving a spell of resurrection, among others.

Atari announced its plans at a press conference in the UK today, but it might as well be only in passing since it then shifted focus to The Witcher, which is coming to consoles, and Ghostbusters. Both games are expected to be released next year.

As for Baldur’s Gate and the rest, they’re going to come in later, so hold off on the celebrations for now. There are plans to revive the said titles, but we won’t be seeing them until 2010. My question here is if the design will remain faithful to its isometrics roots or if it will follow what Bethesda did with Fallout 3.
