Another PSP2 concept hits the net
Just as Shigeru Miyamoto and crew improved the Nintendo DS by releasing the Nintendo DS Lite, there is a growing group of people anxiously awaiting the successor to the Sony PlayStation Portable, even though it’s only been on the market for a relatively short time. PSP Fanboy came across this (appropriately enough) fanboy rendering of what the PSP2 could look like, and well, it looks like the designer has everything upside down. And don’t even get me started on the poor PhotoShop job.
Where do I begin? Well, the shape is certainly different than the current portable offering, creating a wedge-like appearance that may (or may not) be particularly good for long gaming sessions. You’ll also notice that the PSP logo is above the widescreen display, rather than below it, and that the dual analog sticks (a good thing) are above rather than below the directional pad and four face buttons (a bad thing). Granted, I don’t like the current positioning of the analog stick, but I think I dislike this layout even more as it places the triangle, square, circle, and cross buttons in a most uncomfortable place.
On the plus side, this PSP2 concept includes 8GB of Flash memory, an external battery indicator (at last!), 200% brighter screen, WiFi, Bluetooth, and Firmware 4.07. Some good specs, but a rather hideous (and cheap-looking) design.
What’s my PSP2 wish list? I like the Flash memory, WiFi (up to 802.11g), and Bluetooth (with stereo A2DP support please), but do we really need a brighter screen? It’s bright enough as is. Where I would really like to see an improvement is in weight (have you compared the PSP to a DS Lite?) and in battery life (have you compared the PSP… blah, nevermind). The second analog stick is nice too.
