Animal Crossing Wii Still Promised for 2008

Animal Crossing has proven to be quite the lucrative franchise for Nintendo, so we’re naturally expecting some rather huge things from the upcoming version for the Nintendo Wii, especially since we hear that it will have significant “social networking MMO” features to it. Instead of being stuck in your own town all the time, the interaction with other gamers could be a lot more seamless than it has been in the past.

Seeing how Nintendo is known to delay things, we got worried over whether Animal Crossing Wii would be able to make the proposed 2008 launch date. According to Nintendo financial documents, the AC:W (not to be confused with AC:WW for the DS) is still on track for release this year, as is a new Kirby title. That’s the good news. The not so good news is that this roadmap only applies to the Japanese market, so we’re not sure if Animal Crossing Wii will launch in Canada before the end of the year.

On a related note, Mario Kart Wii is still on pace for a spring launch in North America with the European launch following shortly afterwards in Q2. These are all according to financial documents though, so we’ll have to take a wait and see approach to this news.
