Aerosmith Says No to Rock Band, Yes to Guitar Hero
And so they have opened up a whole new can of worms, one that many other bands and musicians may choose to consider when working with video game developers. Aerosmith has officially announced that they have signed a contract with the good people at Activision, effectively locking down their songs for Guitar Hero exclusivity.
What this means is that future iterations of Rock Band will have zero Aerosmith content whatsoever. This marks the first time that a band has signed such an agreement in the music game genre, possibly with the exception of the Harmonix people pimping their own bands in their Harmonix-developed games. But that only makes sense.
As a result, the only way that you’ll be able to enjoy Aerosmith in Rock Band is to play “Train Kept a Rollin” over and over again. I’m not even a big fan of that song… then again, I’m not exactly Aerosmith fanatic anyways. Oh, and the length of the Aerosmith exclusivity with Activision is “unspecified.”
