A Few Details About Heavy Rain

I was intrigued by Heavy Rain when I first saw it on Gamespot nearly two years ago. Unlike most previews that showed gameplay highlights and notable action sequences, Heavy Rain’s tech demo relied on dialogue, setting and voice acting to carry it through. The tryout room to imaginary kitchen scene shift, the narration of the actress, the gun and the subsequent dismissal all contributed to a brilliant, if unsatisfactory, ending. After all, what is Heavy Rain? The video suggests that it could be an adventure title. Granted that it is, what is it about? Getting an acting job?

Some of the answers to those questions finally surfaced this week. Heavy Rain Developer Quantic Dream had director David Cage answering some questions regarding the game, finally giving us a few details about what the title is about.

Heavy Rain is about normal people that have landed in extraordinary situations. I wanted a much more personal story. The first thing that came to my mind, as a father of two little boys, was that the main theme should simply be a father’s love for his son. This is not a game about saving the princess or the world. Its purely about a father’s love.” Also, “the main story will revolve around 4 different characters, and we’re putting the spotlight on their perceptions. The question ‘what is good and what is evil’ is the key here, that will be just a matter of viewpoint…I believe heavily in moral choices, I’m going to use them A LOT. They’re not about being good or bad, but about finding the right balance.”

Balance? That sounds very TLJ.
